Zone activity continues to be strong. Some zones have speakers that have a broad appeal and open up their meetings to allow other disciplines to attend (OT, PT, etc) or direct care supervisors and staff.

Be sure your zone treasurer sends your annual financial statement in to obtain your portion of membership fees to cover zone expenses. If you are not aware of what form to submit contact your state president or treasurer. See contact information listed on the website. Use these funds to book sites for meetings, speaker fees, etc.

Full H1N1 vaccine supplies were finally sent out. Now that the virus is off the front page it’s hard to convince staff to get vaccinated. Cutbacks in hiring across the state also impacted how much vaccine might have been used through this flu season. Public Health is still holding clinics offering H1N1 vaccine and recommending that people be vaccinated. H1N1 flu virus is generally responsible for all cases of influenza seen this season.
A recent study reports that elderly patients sedated with Haldol or Morphine were less likely to be discharged to their homes than patients given other sedatives. Haldol has a high percentage of use in SICU’s (MedPage Today) 1/15/10.
