A Look at Two Hudson River Communities
Watervliet & Cohoes: The Cities/The Immigrants

Coming to the United States had different meanings for different people/immigrants. It might have meant increased opportunity, a chance to reunite with family members or freedom from political or religious persecution. The immigrant experience is something each and every one of us can relate to through our own family histories. Join us on the Trolley as we explore the immigrant experience and the impact new ethnic groups had upon the cities of Watervliet and Cohoes. Thousands found work and opportunity in these Hudson River communities and were welcome neighbors while the economy was strong. We will visit the ethnic neighborhoods within these cities where ethnic groups once clustered and created a new life for themselves and their families. The tour will look at the Irish, Italians, Polish, French and Ukrainians, as well as other groups. You will be on and off the Trolley at least three times- including a stop at the beautiful Cohoes Waterfall. The Tour will include a sampling of NYS ethnic food product and produce and well as wine tasting!

The tour will leave from the Albany Marriott at 12:30 pm Sunday, October 5, 2008.
